Sears Home Service
When I recently bought a snow blower from Sears ( Craftsman 250cc 28" path Two Stage Snow Thrower Sears item# 07188690000 Mfr. model# 88690) , it was my second one. I had the first for 5 years and it was time. I was feeling good about my decision because we can get quite a bit of moderately heavy snow here, and my last blower had been able to handle it fine.
After going to Sears and picking up my new blower, I was a little surprised upon assembly to see that this one was quite a bit smaller that my old one even though the specs were similar (28 inch path vs. 29 inch for example). The next thing that surprised me was that, even though the blower was in a large box, and had clearly been shipped to my local store, there was gas in the tank! Now the box had a warning that the unit shipped with oil in the crankcase so "this side up" - but GAS?
The unit worked for about 1/2 hour and then started making a really horrible noise. I immediately shut it off, and called Sears. This is where the fun starts...
I was told that because I had in home service, i would have to wait nearly 2 weeks for someone to come to my home. I could not take it in myself under the warranty. I explained that I lived in a place where the chances of having no snow for two weeks in January were very small - and was told - essentially - too bad.
Well the night before the service appointment I received a call telling me that the service guy would be there some time between 8 and 5 - but since it was a message i could not say WTF???
Instead, I waited all day for no one to show up. I also waited until the next day to call Sears so I could be at least slightly calm. When I called I was told that the tech had become ill and had tried to call. I mentioned that I was home all day and had an answering machine, and no one had called. That was quickly ignored as i was told that i would have to go to the end of the line again and wait another two weeks. Wow!
Sooo... I waited another two weeks - same 8-5 BS this time the guy came at 2:30p and discovered that he didn't have the needed parts and would have to order them. I would have to go to the end of the line again and wait another two weeks. Finally on 2/13 at 3:00pm the thing was fixed - again after waiting all day.
So - I bought the blower on Dec 18 - I finally had use of it on Feb 13 - I paid $150 in plowing fees, and i got to waste 3 days of my life. All for the promise of "In Home Service"
I also wrote a review on the Sears site which was not posted even though it was as calm as this post. So I wasted that time too.
No more Sears for me.
